One of those times . . .

You know when you are in a moment that is so absolutely wonderful, no matter what you will remember it forever? That's what John and I had the other night. A wonderfully memorable moment that will forever be locked away in my mind as one of the best nights the two of us had together.

On a whim I decided to bring Johnathan to sunset a few weeks ago. I loved the idea of being spontaneous so I literally grabbed John, two towels and my camera and that was it. It wasn't until I got to the beach that I realized I didn't have any toys for John and neither one of us were wearing bathing suits. Turns out that was a happy little mistake that made all the difference.

We got there set up our towel and just sat, watching the sun set, enjoying being together. John really loves playing in sand, I think he could run his hands through it all day long!

Are these mangrove seeds? Not sure.  We used them as pencils!

John wanted to get his toes wet so we ventured to the waters edge . . .

Here comes a wave!!!

And thats it right there, do you see that look on his face? Just before he had gotten the hem of his shorts wet, he looked back as if to say "Can I?" and I said "Go for it!" The look of fun, excitement and breaking the rules wrapped up with the best smile in the world!

And then he was off to get as wet and as covered in sand as possible!

If there was a contest of who was having the most fun at the beach that night, John won, hands down!

Mommy I'm all wet!!!!!!

I'm not sure if it was more fun for me to watch him or for him to look back at me and scream with joy.

The new happy dance . . .

Then it turned into try-and-get-as-wet-and-as-sandy-as-possible I couldn't help but laugh Photobucket

It was at this moment that I started thinking about how I was going to get him home since the previously mentioned lack of beach supplies . . .

And then I realized I didn't care if it made the biggest mess ever, it was SO worth it, so so worth it!

Waiting for the waves to come sweep him away . . .

The sun had already sunk beneath the horizon, we were working with the last few minutes of sunlight. My curious little boy went and turned up the curious and seriously studied the sand, the water, searching for the perfect little shell or pebble. It might sound ridiculous, but I found myself fighting back a few tears as I sat there and watched him.

Then, just like that, he looked up at me and said "Ok, let's go home." I stripped him down to his undies, wrapped him in a towel and ignored the small pile of sand that started growing on the floor of the back seat. On the way home he told me over and over that he had "SO MUCH FUUUUUN MOMMY!!!!"  . . . .

Me too John, me too!
